The independent record company Citadel Records was founded in Moscow in 1997 with the objective of bringing together the best Russian artists of new electronic music. It became the first publisher to inform the music community about the existence of the united Russian electronic music scene for promotion to the domestic and Western music markets. Since then, the creative union of the artists Moscow Grooves Institute, Second Hand Band, That Black, Olga Noel, Eject Project, Dub Chairman, ULA, DSM Formation, RA/BА Mutantъ, Alexandroid, THE:HET and many others has been creating the most up-to-date music wave appreciated both in Russia and the West. Today Citadel Records sets trends not just for the Russian electronica. Its releases represent the new Russian 21st century sound, where cosmic commensurateness of the newest technologies is accelerated by the earthly drive of acoustic instruments, the placidity of the world rhythms and recitatives is sped up by the passionary drive of the classical music, and the tempos, styles and the time direction change within one track. The distinctive trait of the record label is the impeccable quality of the studio work and the high professional level of the artists.
